On Artichokes

“It’s like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.”
― Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind

What’s in a name?

The name of this blog was inspired by two things: the French film, Amélie, specifically this scene, and this essay by Marina Keegan.

Both are excellent and I would recommend acquainting yourself with both.

“You, you will never be a vegetable, because even artichokes have hearts”-Amélie

You could dig (peel?) further and engage in a philosophical debate, concerning avocados and artichokes. The two main categories used to classify various views on human nature that Helen Mitchell uses in her Roots of Wisdom: A Tapestry of Philosophical Traditions. (A boiled down version of Chapter Three can be found here.)

Or you could just blend the two philosophies into a delicious dip.
